Project Description:
Applications are invited for two fully funded EPSRC PhD Research Studentships starting from 1st September 2009. The Studentships are an integrated part of a joint collaborative research between leading UK and Chinese combustion research institutions on oxycoal combustion supported by major UK power industries such as Doosan Babcock, E. ON, RWE, etc.

The research is in the general area of the ongoing scientific developments in Carbon Capture and Sequestration (CCS) technology. The overall aim is to improve the understanding of the oxy-coal combustion scenario and to develop experimental, modelling and predictive capabilities of the underpinning science and technology for clean energy generation.

Funding Notes and Value of Individual Award:
The studentships will be provided for a period of 3 years at the standard EPSRC rate which covers UK/EU fees and includes a non-taxable subsistence allowance, currently of £13,290p.a, and a budget for IT equipment, books, software and travelling to conferences and project meetings.

The successful candidates should fulfil the eligibility criteria for EPSRC funding through UK nationality and/or residency status (See http://www.epsrc.ac.uk/PostgraduateTraining/StudentEligibility.htm) and are therefore only open to UK and EU students.

Entry Requirements:
Candidates should have, or are expecting to obtain in the near future, a first class or good 2.1 honours degree in engineering, mathematics, or science.
